Our project entitled “Early marriages, obstacles to the emancipation of girls and women in our society”, is focused on a very sensitive topic in our country, such as forced ,rr involuntary marriages of girls at a very early age. We have interviewed some girls who are married around the age of 17-19, who shared with us their experience and conveyed important messages to all the other girls who saw the video.
We have also interviewed some girls who are not married yet and listened to their opinions on early marriages.
The girls interviewed think that getting married while being a teenanger is not the best decision you can make for yourself. This action brings consequences that can hardly be recovered later, such as lack of education, economic problems that come as a result of the inability to find a job, financial dependencies on their husbands or his family divorce due to the irresponsibility, of the partner since their partners were also in early ages when they got married”
The interviews were made in our offices in Tirana (October-November). While the presentation of the performance was held in three events in three different cities:
- In Tirana where 50 young girls and boys took part
- In Berat
- In Shijak
As soon as the video of the “femme saloon” was posted on our social media, it had a huge impact on our followers on Instagram (@pink.movement). where it received thousands of clicks and comments. Followers told us that such messages should be given an emphasizes nowadays where girls’ education and economic independence are really important topics.
We have achieved our main goals to make the young generation aware of:
-The importance of education and and economic independence
-The importance of marrying when they are full maturated and ready to take that step
-Making decisions for themselves
