Elbasan is the third city to carry the flaming torch of Artivism. Qendra për Edukim & Sport “Skills”, in collaboration with the Information Network and Active Citizenship association and the “Për zhvillimin psiko-social dhe kulturor të fëmijëve dhe të rinjëve” association located in Elbasan granted the young Albanians of this municipality the opportunity of learning about and practicing activism through art forms like storytelling, film-making, and podcasts in the framework of The Artivist Stafetë project. This is a project funded by the European Union, under the grant for Support to Active Citizenship by the European Commission, and it is awarded to MasterPeace and Stichting art.1, along with their Albanian partners Open Mind Spectrum Albania (OMSA) and ACT.
Every cycle needs to work on three divisions of activities:
1- The cycle will host a series of training on artivism methodologies (storytelling, Walls of Connection, podcast, and film-making) during the duration of the first part of the cycle with the concept of training the trainers.
2- Creating a safe open space as a temporary (one month) creative hub as a physical space for participants to create their artistic productions.
3- Creating different cultural presentations that showcase the artistic work of participants which includes (Film Festival, Femme Salons (TEDx-styled talks), studio-recording of podcasts, Walls of Connection, and hackathons).
The project is a creative and innovative alliance that empowers Albanian civil society organizations and young people in their path to change and create social awareness of human rights, diversity, and gender equality through the arts. Artivist Stafetë aims to make a significant contribution to the understanding of youth of human rights and democratic EU principles, within Albania’s EU membership accession.
This cycle in Elbasan is the third of 9 consecutive cycles that are part of this project, where the winning consortium works in empowering the civil society scene in the city and bringing creative new outlets to young groups, especially those of LGBTQIA+ and vulnerable women.
QES “Skills” is a youth center aiming to empower and increase the self-esteem of youth through helping children and teens develop their skills in many disciplines. INAC is an NGO with a special focus on not only media but also young people and their engagement in the local community in order to influence decision-making and advocate for their rights, making use of various tools of democracy.
PZHPSKFR’s purpose is the psycho-social and cultural development of youth through concrete socio-cultural educative activities, through their smooth integration into Albanian society, and through the advocation for and protection of their rights.
