Durrës

The target group of this project were young people from the area of Durrës who would like to be change makers in their community and act as peer to peer educators. The activities which were implemented in the framework of the project Youth ARTivism were attended by 126 young women and 117 young men aged 17-29 years old. Which makes a total of 243 young people.

The activities which were implemented in the framework of the project Youth ARTivism were attended by 126 young women and 117 young men aged 17-29 years old. Which makes a total of 243 young people. Young people learned about:

  • Human Rights and human rights education
  • How they can be change makers and peer to peer educators in their local community
  • How they can use various forms of art, such as visual art, to promote human rights
  • Combating and preventing discrimination and hate speech via innovative platforms and tools.

Participants successfully completed the follow up stage where they produced twelve (12) podcasts, 1 workshop, 5 films, as well as one (1) workshop, 1 grafiti on the wall and 1 painting on Canvas. 

Products produced by the participants and the project team have been shared online in our social media platforms, youtube channel, as well as mixcloud for the podcasts. During the implementation of the Hackathon we have showcased all the products to the audience and we also had two (2) Femme Salon session where we had 2 guests.

RESULTS

At the end of the activities, the project consortium, composed of representatives of all organizations involved in the project, evaluated the overall level of achievement as “high” due to the following factors:

  • Fulfilment and advancement of the initially planned objectives with the same available resources: Increased capacities of staff members of 3 consortium organizations which were trained by the international experts on film making, storytelling and Increased capacity to identify, withstand and prevent hate speech and radicalized thought of 20 young people and youth workers from the target areas. This was achieved through the implementation of the training course
  • Peer-2-Peer learning and empowerment: The project developed the skills and attitudes of 20 young people in disseminating the knowledge acquired with their social circle and peers. This was achieved by workshop developed in cooperation with the participants of the training course which was attended by 35 other young people.
  • Development of 55 young people skills in using artivism as a tool for promotion of human rights, peaceful coexistence and promotion of peaceful messages
  • High level of engagement among the participants for the production of the products and follow-up actions, which signalized about the relevance and interest of youth to the topic, as well as acquired ability to put the received knowledge into practice.
  • Good acceptance of the broader audience to the counter-narratives that were produced by the participants and shared on social media, which could be tracked through the online reactions and amount of shared posts, particularly by youth/NGOs outside of the initial group.

Many participants have expressed interest in continuing their commitment in combating and preventing hate speech, discrimination and stigmatization through human rights education. Some of them even expressed interest in continuation using artvisim even beyond the project timeline.
